U-shaped curves in development: A PDP approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
As the articles in this issue attest, U-shaped curves in development have stimulated a wide spectrum of research across disparate task domains and age groups and have provoked a variety of ideas about their origins and theoretical significance. In our view, the ubiquity of the general pattern suggests that U-shaped curves can arise from multiple factors, and that the various viewpoints represented herein may be useful for explaining some aspects of developmental change. In this spirit, we offer an additional way of thinking about such phenomena. Specifically, we suggest that U-shaped curves can arise within a domain-general learning mechanism as it slowly masters a domain characterized by statistical regularities and exceptions. This idea differs from those considered thus far, and may encompass many of the phenomena addressed by other views, three of which we outline briefly here. The Effects of Economic, Financial and Political Developments on Iran’s CO2 Emissions
This study examines dynamic interrelationships and causality relationships among CO2 emissions, economic, political and financial variables over the period of 1971-2011 for the case of Iran as one of the top CO2 emitting countries in the world. The results of ARDL and Johansen cointegration approaches confirm the existence of long run relationship among CO2 emissions, energy consumption, GDP, f...
متن کاملModeling U Shaped Performance Curves in Ongoing Development
This paper details a simple and general account, and model, of the U-shaped curve phenomena apparent in many developmental psychology experiments. The model replicates both the general form of the U-shape performance in ongoing development and accounts for additional observations in the psychology literature such as the effect of noise in Switch task experiments. This leads to predictions both ...
متن کاملRelationship between economic development and pollutant discharge in Southeast Queensland
Some relationships between economic development and pollutant discharge have been found to be represented by inverted U-shaped curves, namely the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC), while S-shaped and N-shaped curves have also been found. There are several hard and soft measures to improve water quality in the rivers in Southeast Queensland. Socio-economic conditions related to river water envir...
متن کاملU-Shaped Development: An Old but Unsolved Problem
Even today the investigation of U-shaped functions in human development is of considerable importance for different domains of Developmental Psychology. More and more scientific researchers focus their efforts on the challenge to describe and explain the phenomenon by identifying those skills and abilities being affected. The impact of U-shaped functions on diagnostic decision-making and on the...

The present paper reviews the impact of the development situation of 3 groups of selected developing countries on environment over the period of 1990 – 2014 using by Environment Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis. For this, it uses economic, social, human and political development factors with the variables that are as follows: GDP, GDP2 and energy consumption as economic development indicato...
